︎ Full Project

Do you ever listen to old music or see old artworks that makes you feel nostalgic even if you weren't from that era but the images and music sends you to an Era that once was? Vapor-Stalgia focuses on the emotions from people that are longing for warm memories, even if they see them through rosy retrospection, when they listen to Vaporwave music. Vaporwave is a niche genre of electronic music that emerged in the early 2010s that is popular with Millennials and Gen-Zs. The music is known for their slowed-down, effects, and chopped samples of 1980s and 1990s music (R&B, City Pop, Smooth Jazz, Synth). It’s combined with imagery of early internet design, 3D, unnatural hues and tones, and clean grids and shapes.

Users are in a room where they can see original animations and poster designs based on the vaporwave culture. It also includes original Vaporwave music, made by Luke Mayo, greek sculptures by Oliver Laric, and small stories from anonymous vaporwave enthusiasts.
