Little Expressions

How do we express ourselves, and how do we do so in a global pandemic when we have limited access to what we use to express ourselves? Self expression is important to our well beings and I wanted to look inside and see how important it really was to me, or if it was just for others.

Little Expressions is an exploration of what I collect and why I collect them. There are five booklets (EARRING, CAT, RAINBOW, NAME, PIN) completed for the capstone project, but the initial lists of collections is much larger than this, and the individual lists continue to grow. With the lists I made small booklets with a style that was nostalgic for me, because a lot of the ways we express ourselves start in our childhood and never seem to leave us. The booklets are designed as zines and with minimalism in mind, the images of the collections being the key focus. All of the zines are designed on different colored paper and would be presented wrapped together. Along with the booklets, I designed a poster with all of the items included together. Asking the questions of “is expressing yourself important? is it just for others?” and discovering that self expression is important and even if it is for others, happiness is the goal so what does it matter?

She has over thirty cat themed items and unfortunately no actual cat. No real goals in life besides be happy, make others happy, and help others when she can. And of course, eventually adopt (at least) one cat.
